What is the winter uplift
The winter uplift is to protect you from building up a large negative balance in your first winter with us. If you join between the 1st September and the 31st March, we will add an optional 20% extra to your monthly direct debit payments. This is not an additional charge for our services, we will only charge you for the energy you use and anything you don’t use will appear on your account as a credit.
Why do Igloo have a winter uplift?
We all use more energy in the winter months, when you join us during winter it’s easy to quickly build up a large negative balance as you haven’t had the time to build up a buffer during the summer months. The winter uplift is our way to help you navigate through your first winter and try to help you avoid a negative balance at the end of winter.
Do you do this every year?
No, we only do this when you first sign up to get you safely through your first winter with us. Next year we will be able to use actual usage data to make sure your monthly payments are on point. The best way to ensure we only charge you for the energy you use is to provide regular meter readings, or better still get a smart meter which will do this for you.
What if I pay for more than I use?
We will only charge your energy account for the energy you use, anything you don’t use will show as a credit on your account. We even pay 3% interest p.a. on all credit balances up to £1000. Find out more here
How do I opt out?
If you'd prefer we didn't add the uplift, you can find out how to opt-out here.
